On June 20, 2008 Typhoon Fengshen ramped through 49 provinces across southern, central and northern parts of the Philippines. Heavy rain and sustained winds of up to 160 km per hour battered homes, schools and paddy fields.

The Philippines National Disaster Coordination Council reported that the tropical storm killed 557 people and left 26 missing. As a result of the typhoon, some 4.2 million people, including children were affected by flash flooding, storm surges and landslides.

Immediately following the storm, World Vision distributed food to 12,000 families and set up psychosocial care programmes for more than 3,000 children. Today people continue to pick up the pieces of their lives – rebuilding homes and damaged schools, drying out their school books and making every effort to recover from their agricultural loses.
